Just as I did last October, I’ve again splashed some pink around my site as part of “Pink for October” to help bring attention to Breast Cancer Awareness Month. You can find out more at the official site here, where you can checkout the other sites who are taking part, and signup yourself.
If you haven’t already you should definitely go and check out Matt Brett’s awesome redesign. Its been in the works for quite a while, and is a worthy successor to his previous design “Back in black”. I really like the use of all the transparent pngs, gives the whole thing an extra dimension. Read about it here.
First recap post on my LOST blog for nearly a month, kind of got sidetracked redesigning this site over the past few weeks. Only 3 more of the “Missing Pieces” to review and then I can get back to the full episode recaps I was doing for Season 4, plus continue the “rewatching” that I started nearly a year ago, I think I was almost to the end of Season 1, not sure though. I’ll also post any interesting bits (not many so far) from this year’s Lost ARG that is running in between season 4 and 5. Until then Keep Reading →
As some of you noticed, I neglected to pay appropriate attention to the “press this” styles when I released v1.2, the page was still usable but things clearly weren’t how they should have been. This update fixes that, I’ve added the necessary styles to Fluency to give “press this” the same feel as the rest of the admin.
I’ve also fixed up a couple of other things that were pointed out to me such as how the sidebar was overlapping the ‘activate theme’ lightbox when using Fluency together with Ozh’s Admin Drop Downs plugin, thanks to Ozh for posting a solution in the comments before I’d even had a chance to look at it. You might also notice that I’ve reinstated the border radius on some of the buttons. I originally removed these in v1.0 because of how bad the border radius looked in Firefox 2, but that has now been fixed in Firefox 3 so the border radius love can return.
The next big step for Fluency will be to get it working with the current WordPress trunk for 2.7, which includes yet another redesign/reorganisation of the admin. It will most likely mean start almost from scratch for the next version, but since the new admin for 2.7 is set out a LOT like Fluency by default (coincidence ???) it should be a fairly simple process. I’ll keep you all posted.
Although this theme may have been re-written from the ground up leaving few remnants of the “zipper” theme that I’ve been running for the last 7 months (its had a few touch-ups during that time), I’m not thinking of this as a complete redesign, its more of a refinement or evolution with some tricks thrown in. And hopefully its going to be a bit quicker too, since I’ve spent a fair amount of time cleaning things up to try and reduce load times.
Keep reading to find out how and why I made some of the bigger changes, as well as a few things that I still haven’t completely finished. I might even let you know about some other things I’m working on
Well looky here, its all a bit different isn’t it. I’m thinking of this as an evolution more than a total redesign, but that hasn’t stopped me rebuilding some sections from scratch for example the archives and the new download archives. Oh and Captain Planet is back too. I’ll go into more detail about all that and more tomorrow, because I seriously need some sleep…this upgrade took way longer than originally planned.
Ok, before you go and get all excited I should say that this is a pretty basic update, mainly just compatibility. As most of you probably know WordPress released version 2.6 a few days ago, and those who follow me on Twitter (and you better be using Hahlo …or there shall be trouble :p) would be aware that I have been working on making sure Fluency remains compatible.
The latest version of Ozh’s Admin Drop Downs works with this release (if you use Ozh’s plugin with Fluency 1.1 you probably noticed it went all crazypants after you updated…yeah you did didn’t you). I’ve also taken a little bit of time to fix a few little things that had been bugging me for a while, most are so minute you won’t even notice them.
And that’s about it, nothing much else except to tell you that the download link can be found at the top right of the page after the jump, and you can find out more details here.
UPDATE: I’ve just received an email tletting me know that the Press This bookmarklet doesn’t work so well with 1.2, I’ll take the blame for that, for reasons unknown I’d crossed it off my to-do list, but its definitely a bit wonky. I will try and get it fixed ASAP. Apologies.
Its been an exciting month since the release of Hahlo 3, my analytics show that usage has increased approximately 300% since launch (wow), Twitter has been up and down and now looks like it getting back in order after the troubles of a week or so ago, and Summize have added some fancy new features to their service and api…
More powerful search
The addition of the Summize.com powered search function in Hahlo 3 has been a huge hit. For those of you who also visited the Summize site, you probably had a play around with their “Advanced Search”. Now in Hahlo 3.1 you can also do these same “advanced” searches with ease, to try it out just tap the “Advanced” button, in the menu just below the standard search box.
“Near Me” and location based searches
In the time since Hahlo 3 was launched, Summize have also bee adding to their own API, one of the big updates was the inclusion location data for each tweet, and the ability to search based on those locations.
New TV show written/produced by J.J. Abrams, Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci. Those three have already worked together on Alias, Star Trek, Mission Impossible 3 among other things. Kurtzman and Orci also worked together on Transformers and The Island.
The trailer looks pretty interesting, but I think I’ll watch this simply based on whose writing and producing it.
Update: Found some neat promo posters for Fringe over on a FOX blog (which is just using the default Wordpress theme…very unimaginative guys…) Check them out
The latest and greatest Hahlo has just been released live to the world, the original Twitter client for iPhone just got even better. Hahlo 3 has been in development for the past month, and in active beta testing for the past two and bit weeks. The beta itself has proved popular among users, with over 1,000 people signing up to take part. Not bad when compare to just the 120-odd that tested the Hahlo 2 Beta last year. Several sites have run reviews of the Hahlo 3 Beta, including a nice detailed preview by The Unofficial Apple Weblog.
Based on the theme that I used on this site for the latter part of 2007. It comes with 21 different color schemes built-in, as well as simple integration of twitter, flickr and delicious.
