Wordpress 2.1 and Redoable

230107

So it’s finally here Wordpress 2.1 has been released upon the blogging world. With is come many new features, and enhancments that will hopefully improve the Wordpress experience. A few of the new/updated features include, autosaving of posts, new tabbed editor so you can eaisly flip between WYSIWYG and code modes, spell checking, more AJAX bits to reduce the number of page reloads. A full run-down of 2.1 feaures can be found here.

Some of the changes to 2.1 will undoubtably affect existing plugins and themes. Some of the added developer benefits include, a javascript loader which makes it easier for plugins to include rich functionality and tons of new hooks and APIs. So its time to check to make sure all of your favourite plugins are up-to-date, and that they are Wordpress 2.1 compatible.

Speaking of compatibilty, thats about the only thing left to do as far as Redoable 1.1 is concerned. I’ve now got the release version of 2.1 running locally, and I will spend the next little while testing Redoable. I’ve already found that the changes to how the Blogrll/links are categorised will require some small changes. There are a few things that I have been unable to fix for this release, mainly because I can’t replicate the problem, making it very hard to solve, but I’ll cover that in the next few days when I release Redoable 1.1.

A great theme. But it seems as if the Wordpress 2.1 upgrade may have caused a minor problem. I have done a little snooping around and it appears that the comments.php may be at fault.

If you look at any post on the blog and scroll down to the relevant comments section it actually displays the comments of another post. This is repeated through out the blog all posts showing the same identical comments.

I’m simply puzzled as to why its happening i have checked all values associated with the posts that my trigger this function but its beyond that. On an overall perspective the function call to comments_template some how goes awry.

Thanks for all the help and hope it goes to help improve the Redoable theme for the next release

Teeth Maestro: Thanks for the feedback and the investigation that you have done. Several other users have reported this problem as well. However, I have still not been able to reproduce this problem, which makes it hard to fix.

I have Redoable running on three seperate installations of Wordpress, covering a variety of different configurations, but still I can not reproduce this error. It also appears that this isn’t happening for everyone that is using Redoable.

I will have to do some addtional checking of the comment code before I release Redoable 1.1, but I’m fairly sure that I hadn’t made any changes from the original K2 code.

If it helps, I noticed that the comments that appear for any post, are from the last post of the page. I have set up 10 posts/page and the comments of the 10th post appear in any other post.
