Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street 4 stars

Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street

So when I sat down last night to watch Sweeney Todd, I had absolutely no idea that it was based on a Broadway musical. Shows just how little I knew about it. All I really knew was it was a Tim Burton film, with Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter (gee…how original), and plenty of blood.

My ignorance aside, I really enjoyed it, not exactly your typical musical though. Overall it is very recognisable as a Burton film, although I was a little disappointed there wasn’t more blood, but then again it is more of a crime thriller than an outright horror movie.

Would definitely recommend it to anyone who’s not afraid of a little gore.

  1. Heh. I was fortunate enough to see Sweeney Todd for free at a screening, knowing nothing about it except that Johnny Depp had a part. It’s so horribly delicious, and I don’t mean the pies. I can’t wait to buy the DVD; I just need to find a store nearby since I’m not in the mood to shop online.

  2. So when I sat down to watch Sweeney Todd last night, I was expecting a musical. But it turns out that I had downloaded a non-musical version of Sweeney Todd that aired on BBC in 2006. And it was pretty good. I’ll have to watch the new one soon.
