Redoable 1.2 is now available and is compatible with both Wordpress 2.0.x and Wordpress 2.1

Redoable is built upon the popular K2 code, with some things changed, a couple of things removed and a whole bunch of things added.

Redoable 1.1 Released

The sidebar is module/widget ready, with over 20 different modules available to use. By deafult the sidebar will work without the need to add any modules, and will display the calendar, categories, tags, blogroll and listen and watch modules depending, of course, on whether you have the relevant plugins set up.

Two of the modules, ‘Listen’ and ‘Watch’, make use of categories in Links, you can set which category and how many links to display in the Redoable options panel. The idea of these is to provde links to music, movies etc that you might be enjoying at the time. This was based on a method described by Matt Brett.

Sidenotes will be shown on the homepage. The category and number of sidenotes can be set in the Redoable options panel. They are displayed using Matt’s Asides technique just as they are in K2.

As with K2 the Extended Live Archives can be setup from the Redoable options panel, and you can also enable the Archives page. I also added support for Alex King’s Articles plugin, and once the plugin is activated the Articles page can be turned on or off from within the Redoable options panel.

On top of all this there are countless tweaks here and there to just about everything, too many to list here and many are probably barely noticeable.

Note: Redoable is not a style for K2, it is an independant theme. You can have both K2 and Redoable installed on your blog at the same time as they do not share any config options and can be configured seperately.

Supported plugins

The following plugins are supported by Redoable ‘out-of-the-box’, and all are highly recommended. All you need to do is download them, add them to your plugins floder and activate them. If you know of any great plugins you would like to see in future releases leave a comment or send me an email.

Installation

  1. Download the Redoable package.
  2. Unpack, and upload to the wp-content/themes/ directory on your server.
  3. Login to your admin area and set Redoable as the current theme.
  4. Install and activate any of the above listed plugins.
  5. Enjoy.

Style Examples

Examples of how to use these styles is shown below. You can do this by clicking the ‘html mode’ button on the WYSIWYG toolbar. Alternately you can download the Rechuked Buttons Plugin which will add buttons to this same toolbar to allow you to use these styles.

Thankyou

Michael, Chris, Zeo, Steve, Ben and anyone else who has contributed to K2. Without K2 there would have been no starting point for my theme.

Tyler Longren for his Unwakeable theme which was also based on K2, and served as a good base to build Redoable from.

FamFamFam for the fantastic Silk icon set. There’s an icon for just about everything.

The authors of all the plugins listed above, they help make Redoable what I want to be.

Known Issues

There were a couple of things that I have been unable to completely fix so far, these are listed below. If you have any suggestions your help is always welcome. If you find any bugs please leave details of them in the support forum.

  • Some people are experiencing a problem where the comments and permalinks are all referring to the incorrect posts. As yet I have been unable to replicate this problem, and it doesn’t seem to happen on everyones blog. It could be related to the use of different permalink structures, but as yet I don’t have a solution for it. - Fixed in v1.2
  • Sidebar overlap issue. This hasn’t been completely fixed but the sidebar will now overlap on top of the footer instead of disappearing behind it when there is only a small amount of page contents.
  • LiveSearch doesn’t seem to work with custom permalinks. This has also been reported by other users of K2 (which Redoable is based on), but as yet no-one has had a good answer.

  26. I definitely love this theme, I am using it in my first Wordpress blog, and I probably will be using it in any WP blog in the future.

One thing I don’t understand is, why the 404.php file is a binary file. Shouldn’t it be a plain text php source? Am I missing something?

  34. it really is a shame the option to turn OFF that gawd awful “Get Firefox” banner doesn’t work.

Ok, figured it out (that is how to remeove the “Get firefox” banner. . You need to goto the Theme Editor, and click on the file - I think Header, and remove the 6 or so lines near the bottom that reference the “Get Firefox” banner. - Sorry, wish I kept my cut. Obviously this will break the templte, but if you think it rocks - like I do, and are desperate to use it, but really can’t deal with the “Get Firefox” banner, then until the template is fixed, this is what worked for me. I hope it helps someone.

  35. Is there a relatively easy way to add an additional sidebar on the left side or even another column to the right of the default sidebar? I’m not familiar with modifying code so I’m trying to find a way to do this which is as simple, clear, and straightforward as possible. Thanks for the help!

  43. I really like the theme and intend to use in for the blog I am planning. One little comment is that I feel it is much better to put an image in place of a text as a title. Sometimes the text don’t look too good. One last thing, I would like to know if it is redoable that you use as your theme for this site or another one.

  44. OK, I feel like this should be obvious and I feel dumb asking, but I can’t figure out how to use the sidebar modules in the first place. I can edit the sidebar.php to my heart’s content if it’s using an existing module or a plugin, but I don’t see how to just include a module from the theme or build a sidebar out of modules.

I saw the K2 sidebar theme plugin, but it didn’t activate and I didn’t think it would solve the problem anyway. Help?

  48. This is one of the best themes I’ve found, and I’m using it on my blog now. My only question, since I’m not a CSS expert, is how I could add a little bit more space in between the end of each “block” in the sidebar and the start of the next one? Right now everything looks very crowded and bumps right up against the item below it, but I can’t figure out how to change that in the CSS. Can anyone help?

  49. Hi there,

I’ve tried this theme with Wordpress 2.5 and it seems pretty solid on the new platform but I’ve hit an issue with Comment Flooding. For some reason it extends the normal 15 seconds to some indeterminate length thus preventing anyone (including me!) from commenting more than once for ages.

Are you intending updating this theme for 2.5 by any chance? I really like the look and feel - very simple and stylish. Cheers

And if not… thank you anyway, for your hard work and your gift to the community.

  58. man, I love this theme. I just hate the fact people I know don’t care what browser they use and just default to IE.

but yeah, trying to fix it.. while on a mac… is painful, hahaha. If I get bored enough, I might try my hand at making a fake redoable-esq theme.

  59. Also, I came across a “web design blog” in my search for an answer to a problem on wordpress.org and lo and behold, it was using the redoable theme, except it had been debranded and the owner of the blog was passing it off as his own…. I’ll see if I can find the url to the guy’s site.

  64. It’s not 100% true that a theme gets better or nicer when it goes widgetized. This depends on the layout of the theme. I personally don’t think this theme is good to become widgets friendly. The layout is too unique and special.

  65. Hello, Dean. First of all, thanks for Redoable.

A friend of mine and I have just finished translating Redoable 1.2 into Spanish. You can find that translation here:

    http://code.google.com/p/redoable-es/

There you will find a MO file - that’s the one you have to install -, a PO file - in case you want to modify the translation so it better fits your needs -, a PATCH file and a ZIP file.

There are some strings that are not translation-ready in Redoable 1.2 - i.e. they are not printed/passed using _e() or __() — . We’ve taken care of that and prepared a patch file that modifies many of that strings and get them ready to translate. For those afraid of patching, we’ve also included the modified files into a ZIP file so you only have to replace them.

Please let us know any thoughts you have regarding this translation.

  73. Hi,
    very good Theme ;)

    My Question:
You have more distance on your sidebar on your widgets.
In which page, script, css can I change this?
    Thank you for answer,
    with best regards, Phil

  74. Hey dean, very nice theme! Cheers! :)

Well, I did try tweaking the CSS for the overlapping footer. I noticed there are three parts (this is what I inferred: post footer, footer below the page and another below the sidebar) to the footer. I’ve not gone through the PHP of the page. If the footer is not divided in the way I assume, would it work if you actually did it? I mean break the footer into two parts, one for the sidebar and one for the page. Just my guess.. Can it work?

I’m just using the default Gravatar plugin that you can download from http://www.gravatar.com

Hope that is what you were after.

  77. Hi Dean,

I just have a question concerning the style your using in you comments. I’m actually using “MyAvatars” plugin but yours looks better. Is that another plugin different from mine ? If yes, where am I able to download it ? If not, which HTML code do I have to enter and where ?

    Best regards,

  78. Hello Corraze,

May be you are right. This comment style looks totally different and hopefully it may be a different plugin.

Just wanted to say thanks for Redoable! I had great fun restyling it, and it’s attracted a lot of positive comments from visitors - but I feel it’s time for a reboot!

You’re doing a great thing for the community you know? ;) Keep up the good work - and see you around! :)  Paul

  92. @h4cker: Well, actually its not wrong, its just inconsistent.

    This is from http://www.w3.org/TR/CSS21/syndata.html

pc: picas - 1 pica is equal to 12 points.

And since the value is 0, it shouldn’t really make any difference whether its 0pc, 0px, 0em, 0%. I will change it though so that things are consistent.

    Oh, nice point!

  99. Could you tell me if the security exploit in 1.2 has been patched yet? I want to use this theme but I’m not going to install it if the exploit still exists.

    Exploit info: http://secunia.com/advisories/25310/

    Thanks

Not as yet, but if you still want to use Redoable, you could try patching it yourself. According to this (http://redlevel.org/wp-content/uploads/redoable.txt) there are only two lines that need modification, should be pretty easy.

I will update the download when I get time, but I would like to thank the guy who found it for pointing it out to me.

But when you think about it, its now public knowledge that an exploit exists, in my eyes publicising the exploit has made it more exploitable…kind of a double edge sword. You warn people, but by warning them you tell people who you would rather didn’t know in the first place.

  102. First, thanks for the great theme. I’ve been looking for widgets, etc and this is just killer.

I’ve installed, but on the redoable sidebar modules page, all I ever get is “You must specify a valid module name” when I try to add any module to my sidebars. I can’t move things up or down, and I seem to make changes to the redoable options that don’t stick.

Any ideas what I’ve done wrong? Thanks!

  103. Can someone share how one can update their redoable installation from 1.1 to 1.2, if he has already made some custom modifications (custom header, css)? Can Dean share which key files need to be updated?

You can find a list of all the files that have been modified in the changelog.
    http://www.deanjrobinson.com/wp-content/themes/redoable/changelog.txt

Unfortunately theres no super-easy solution to upgrading, and keeping you’re customisations. My suggestion would be to make a backup copy of all the files you have made changes to, so that you don’t lose them, before you upgrade.

I understand how annoying this is as I have now got the same problem when I want to try and roll K2 changes into Redoable. Only in my case, due to the number of modifications I’ve made, its become almost impossible. :(

  109. Congrats on the success with redoable Dean! I love the theme and am currently using it. I did have to add one small line of code (z-index: 1;) to the #header style to allow my plugin, Updated Today, to work. As far as I can tell it doesn’t hurt anything else since the header does not float anything at all. If you have the time please send me an email at cklosowski at gmail dot com. I would be interested in discussing your criteria for supported plugins.

  127. I too am new to blogging and this is my very first theme. Thanks a lot it’s absolutely great. Pardon me if this should be in the support forum and not here, but I need a bit of help.

    1. I notice on pages that are not my home page, certain things in my sidebar get cut off (i.e. part of the calendar, and the blog roll) along the bottom line (see photo please). I was wondering if there was a fix for this, or if I simply need to add more content to make the page longer (that seemed to help after just a little).

    2. I have the sidebar plugin for widgets from automattic. I see that I can add in the calendar, and recent posts/entries, but i was wondering if there’s a way to add back in the months, blogroll, and the default search? Also… I see that you have a photo next to your twitter status, how do I get that? Mine only had my last 2 statuses…

Hope this is in the right place, and isn’t too many questions. Like I said, I’m a super noob, and I just meed a little bit of help. Thanks!

  141. Ok…

    Sure that’s the problem then.

I’ll try to fix regenerating the .pot file from php files.

    Agamum Thursday 26 April 2007
  142. @agamum: I don’t know what could be stopping you localisation file working. I didn’t make any changes to it that I’m aware of. I don’t full understand how the po/pot/mo etc. files work, but I assume, after looking at them, that they probably rely on the specified line numbers to function correct. This is probably the problem, becuase due to some of the structural changes that I had to make to fix some bugs, some of these have probably thrown things out of line. Sorry if this has caused you any trouble.

    dean.j.robinson Thursday 26 April 2007
  143. Hi Dean!

Congratulations for the 1.2 release ;)

    Only a question…

Have you updated the K2 core to another version than using in Redoable 1.1??

I ask this because my localized .mo file works perfectly with Redoable 1.1, but dont with 1.2.

I have updated the .po from the .pot file in the archive and there’s no changes… so maybe you forgot to include a new .pot file corresponding to this release?.

    Thanks in advance!

    Agamum Thursday 26 April 2007
  144. [quote comment=”1048”]That indeed solved the problem. there’s another problem now though: Your redoable logo is sometime askew and it overlays my tags[/quote]

Don’t worry too much about that, once you’ve got a couple more posts it will be ok.

It looks like you’re using the modules, so open up modules/cat_block.php in there you’ll see two variables that specify the colours $lightcol and $darkcol

[quote comment=”1052”]Is there a way to include Google Adsense in my sidenotes bar? Where would I place the code?[/quote]

You could try either adding it to the sidebar2.php file, or if you are using the modules you could try adding the adsense to a html module.

    Michiel Thursday 26 April 2007
  148. @Michiel: I think that error is actuallyin the blogroll section. The only thing that comes to mind at the moment is to get you to check the Redoable options panel in the admin area.

Makes sure that you have a value entered in the “Blogroll Link Number” option. If that doesn’t help, post it in the support forum, and I’ll look further into it.

  156. @nelly - your users should either be upgrading to IE7 (which displays the site nearly properly), or (ideally) upgrading to firefox, which is a better browsing experience anyways. try posting some reviews of firefox and links to getfirefox.com on your site, and you might see some changes in your stats. (remember to point out to users that it is MUCH easier to add extensions to firefox and that firefox is less likely to infect their computers with spyware/malware.)

Yesterday, I posted a fix to the Widgets Plugin Redoable Ultimate Tag Warrior (UTW) = no tag cloud issue.

I never said that it hadn’t been tested in IE6.

“nearly forces users to use IE6”…..I assume you mean Firefox and not IE6

What is so “unacceptable” about providing a FREE Wordpress theme, with FREE support.

As for “that terrible DIV”, you can always remove it, and theres an easy option for exactly that in the next release.

Yes, I’m aware that some users may have no other choice, and I feel for them, honestly I do. But…

Please, keep this in mind, I built this theme for MY blog, releasing it to the public wasn’t originally planned. Internet Explorer 6 trafic to MY blog is much less than 10%. And again, how many FREE wordpress themes provide FREE support?

Fact is that I’ve had over 10,000 downloads of Redoable, yet there have been only been about 5 or 6 people complain that it doesn’t work in IE6.

I will fix compatibility in IE6 when I get a chance. But not before I find a way of doing that without breaking it in all the standards compliant browsers…

When it comes down to it, if IE6 is such a big issue for you, then there are thousands of other themes out there.

I’m working on it. Unfortunately I can’t give you a solid answer for when it will be completely fixed. At the moment I’m think that I will probably wrap up the changes I’ve made and release 1.2, and then try and just focus on fixing the layout problems in IE6 for 1.3.

Not issues exactly, they are all just setting for the blogroll. By default the blogroll in Redoable will display 10 random links, in a random order.

  189. First off, great theme :) However, the problem with the comments picking up the wrong posts is annoying. As Tom suggested above disabling the sidebar widgets plugin makes the problem disappear. However, I found out that whenever I add something to the default sidebar, comments mess up again. I don’t know how there is a relation with the sidebar and the comments/permalinks.

Probably, many people do not experience this problem because many people just use the default sidebar. Otherwise, it is impossible to change the default sidebar without messing up the comments.

I really want to use this theme. Were you able to track down the problem yet? What can be the relation between the sidebar and the rest of the theme? Thanks in advance.

Thanks for your response, but the things is I didn’t change a thing from wordpress or redoable. I didn’t change the stylesheet, and I didn’t change any PHP codes. Everything was default from redoable. So if it is a float problem, it may have been originated from redoable.

That could be a WP2.1 issue, something may have changed which is causing this. You don’t really need to worry too much, as they don’t do anything that you can’t do yourself within the plugin own settings. The Gregarious button probably doesn’t work for the latest version.

  202. I just posted the above comment, but found out it doesn’t display my “diagrams” correctly. I’ll try again here. But you may still need to use a fixed width font to see it aligning in the way I describe them. I’ll use underscore “_” to denote spaces.

The way I want it to look:

    Paragraph_1_[image 1]
    and etc.____[image 1]
    ____________[image 1]

    Paragraph_2_[image 2]
    and____other[image 2]
    stuff.______[image 2]

The way that it is looking now when I align right:

    Paragraph_1_[image 1]
    and etc.____[image 1]
    Par[image 2][image 1]
    agr[image 2]
    aph[image 2]

  203. I want to have my post look something like this:

    Paragraph 1 [ ]
    and etc. [image 1]
    [ ]

    Paragraph 2 [ ]
    and etc. [image 2]
    [ ]

Both image 1 and 2 are suppose to be portrait (vertical), and I want them to line up on the right, follow each paragraph or each list item. But when I select right algin for the images, it displays something like this:

    Paragraph 1 [ ]
    and etc. [image 1]
    [ ][ ]
    par[image 2]
    agr[ ]
    aph 2 and etc.

The height of the image 1 quite long and paragraph 1 is not long enough to wrap around the bottom of image 1. So image 2 is now aligned to the left-edge of image 1. I’m not as skilled with CSS and so far I have not figure out which property under which class can help me align them.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    color: #EEE !important;
    font-family: Helvetica, Arial, Sans-Serif !important;
    letter-spacing: -1px;

If you want to change the link colours, or basically anything that is red (or a shade of red) look for “Colourifical” somewhere around line 300, and that should have most of the colours you need to change.

To change the whites, you can play around with the $grey_white (sets the bg colours white ‘white’ theme is selected) and $text_white (sets the text colours when ‘white’ theme is selected.

If you have any trouble, just leave a message in the Support Forum, and I’ll see what I can do.

The error mentioned could be caused by another ‘digg’ plugin, or another version of Gregarious that is still active. For further help, you might want to check the Gregarious site, to see if there is anyone else experiencing this problem. http://dev.lipidity.com/feature/wp-plugin-gregarious

I am just using the Gregarious plugin. You may also be able to run Gregarious (with the included share this disabled), and Share this plugin together.

The small dialog box “should” be the default behaviour. There is a setting in the share this php file, “add_to_footer”, this should be set to true, so that the form is loaded. It could also be possible that a javascript conflict could affect the pop up form.

If you have any furtherproblem/questions just leave a message in the support forum.

  239. Man, I really love this theme. A few things, though (since the forum is down ATM), that I know may have been discussed before:

    - Any flash plugins do not show up. I have YouTube and MySpace embedded videos that are invisible, and Flash ads in my sidebar are invisible as well.
    - When I enable sidenotes, said posts go *under* the far-right side bar and extend out beyond them, their paragraphs justified. Weird, eh?
    - The archives page simply doesn’t work. It comes back with a 404. Since I have non-standard redirects (like /entries/5), I suppose it may be related.
    - The live AJAX search doesn’t seem to work like it should. I get search results, but only after submitting.
    - Search results do not note the *year* of the post, just like on the front page. While this may seem to be a clever thing, I think the year should always be there (like on individual posts’ pages).
    - The gregarious plugin puts either *two* digg widgets on my post and one on the front page, or only one on the post page but none on the front page. I’d like just one, on the right, on both the front page and the post page.

    - Is there a comment feed logo somewhere? I can’t find it.
    - What plugin are you using for the 5-star ratings and number-of-words-in-posts? That’s neat.
    - Also, maybe unselected text areas/text fields could be a little more readable.

Anyway, terrific product. I love it!

Thanks for your reply. I’ve already figured out how to increase the header height; my issue is more about the actual placement of a banner. I’m guessing this is going to need to be something similar like the placement of the logo, but I don’t know where to go from there.

Another thing I noticed that might affect banner placement above the logo, in fact you can see it on this site as well, is that the clickable area seems to take up the width of the logo but the height of the header area. In other words, space that would be used for a banner is already clickable for the logo. I hope this makes sense…

  260. A couple of items:

    1. For anyone looking for help changing the header image, this is a snap. In header.php, replace the reference to redoable_logo.png with your image. If you use a larger image, be sure to change the padding from 123 to a more suitable number in style.css (under #title).

Thats great thanks, another thing.. I’ve had to remove your theme for now because when I load up in IE things like my page links dont appear (or is that because of the firefox banner?) In a perfect world everyone would use firefox but unfortunately they dont and most of the people who view my blog use it. Is there a fix for this?

In postratings.php around line 50 you will find the the_ratings() function.

You will need to change each div to span in this function, so that it will display the post ratings inline.

  276. I love the theme, but I’m starting to have problems with it.

    I installed it just fine but after editing the side bar specifics I now get 2 undefined Class errors. One form the dragDrop.js file: var Draggable = Class.create(); and one from the sbm.js file: var sbmDnDBox = Class.create();

Both of them are “Class is not defined” errors. Unfortunately because of this nothing shows up in the Sidebar 1 column to edit or change.

Any advice? I would sure love to get this working.

  279. Look at the header file and change where it says something like and put the code for the image there. Then go into the CSS file and down to the header grouping, and there’s a header tag, I think its header title, where you have to change the padding-top from 123 to 0. Make sure the image you’re putting into the header is 180px by 730px.

  282. The upgrade didn’t solve it. I’ve been looking through the loop code and then the plugin code for the function rp_recentlinks_inline_merge and can’t find anything wrong. Ok, my guess is that its the 30 days thing thats causing the trouble. In Wordpress 2.1 you can nno longer choose X days, you only get the option of X posts, because I have coded it to work with WP2.1, and therefore X days only, that would most likely explain the problem.

    dean.j.robinson Wednesday 31 January 2007

I don’t know about wp-recent-comments, is it enabled at the moment on your site?

Unless you are referring to wp-recent-links? Because the problem you describe sound very much like what happens when this plugin is activated. The thing is that it counts each link you add as a normal post. So, for example, if you set your blog to display 10 posts per page, and then you add 8 links, you will only get two ‘real’ posts, plus your 8 links.

Its all down to how the plugin works, and I didn’t really like that so I have re-written the plugin so that links are included in the count allowing you to have as many links as you want in addition to your regular posts.

I will try and release this plugin soon, as a few people have come across this same problem.

Hope that helps, sorry, if I’ve gone off track.

  300. You rock Dean. Once again thanks for the time and attention to the problem. Great theme and I hope all the bugs get ironed out.

    Chris Friday 12 January 2007
  301. Chris: Thanks for the feedback. I am aware of the comment problem, it has been mentioned by some other users as well. That said it works fine here on my blog, and on my test installs, so I’m having a little trouble replicating the problem to try and find a fix for it.

It also appears this isn’t a problem for everyone, I know of a couple of other blogs using Redoable, and their comments and trackbacks work ok.

I am also working on fixing the overlap problem with the Redoable logo and the sidebar, both will hopefully be fixed in Redoable 1.1.

    dean.j.robinson Friday 12 January 2007
  302. Clarification to my comment previously — the comments section for each post all ended up referring an entirely different post than the one being shown. i.e. the comment section for post #5 actually posts comments for post #1. Same with posts #1, 2, 3 and 4…each of their comment sections thinks it’s post #1 as well. Kinda weird but it’s tough to explain.

Apologies for my lack of clarity above. God bless!

    Chris Friday 12 January 2007
  303. First off Dean thanks for a great K2 mod. Best one I’ve seen so far.

That being said, there’s a minor problem in my installation…not entirely sure if it’s on my end or if it’s found in the theme’s CSS anywhere. What’s happening on my end is when a single post is displayed (this happened with every post I clicked on), the comments section ends up referring to a different topic entirely. No matter what post I clicked on and visited the comments section, the comments seemed to be stuck on that certain topic.

Boggles my mind because I couldn’t find anything anywhere in the CSS, nothing in the single_post.php file that would allude to there being a problem.

Another quick note is that the Redoable logo in the footer overlaps my sidebar on single posts as well. Don’t know if that’s related or not, and that could be a simple CSS fix.

I had to go to another K2 style while I am troubleshooting the problem on my end, but already I miss Redoable. :-(

Once again great work Dean and thanks in advance for the follow up!!!

    Chris Friday 12 January 2007
  304. Ok, gotcha. Looking forward for the next release then. I might comment the search box then :)

gillo: As I had mentioned above, LiveSearch (and Search to a certain degree) is broken in Redoable 1.0, I am running 1.1 on this site which is why LiveSearch (should) be working work. 1.1 is still in development and LiveSearch will be fully functional when it released.

The 404 page is because the livesearch script is looking for a page that doesn’t exist. I apologise for any confusion, I think I might has misread your first comment.

    dean.j.robinson Friday 12 January 2007
  306. In my plug-in folder, I have two folders: ‘share-this’ and ‘share-this 1.3.1’. The first contains the icons and the file share-this.php. The second contains only the file prototype.js, maybe this can be a problem?

I removed the reference to ‘/wp-includes/js/prototype.js’ on the share-this.php file, and the reference to slider.js on the header.

Unfortunately, the search is still not working. When I search for something, not only it gives me no results, but when using livesearch, it also attaches a 404 page at the bottom of the page itself??

    Thanks for the help.

    gillo Thursday 11 January 2007
  307. gillo: slider.js.php was left over from the k2 theme on which Redoable was based. The file itself wasn’t actually included with Redoable, but if it does exist you can safely delete it, you can also remove the reference to it in the header.

prototype.js is required, it handles all the effects and ajax stuff, like LiveSearch, Live Comments etc. If more than one copy of prototype is loaded it seems to cause problems with LiveSearch. My recommendation would be to check if more than one copy of it being loaded.

You are using ShareThis and I have previously identified a bug/compatibility issue between it and Redoable. You will most likely need to modify the share-this code to remove the line where it includes prototype.js. ShareThis will still work, because prototype is already loaded.

The second inclusion of prototype seems to kill LiveSearch.

    dean.j.robinson Thursday 11 January 2007
  308. Dean: earlier on today I’ve seen exactly that, theresults underneath the search form. Now I don’t see them anymore and I get results only after I press return (and they appear in a very small font). However, on my site, they don’t appear at all, even after I press return.

On another note, I checked the size of the homepage and I found out that among the most “heavy” files, there are these two:

    22kb http://totaltactics.org/wp-content/themes/redoable/js/slider.js.php
    22kb http://totaltactics.org/wp-includes/js/prototype.js
Can you tell mw what they do and if I can slim something down? The page is more than 200kb!!!

    gillo Thursday 11 January 2007
  309. gillo: Yes, the problem with the livesearch seems to be with my proxy and not my site. It seems to have cached all my files and won’t load new ones if they are available.

For example I changed the css to fix a problem and numerous ‘hard’ refreshs were needed before it realised it need to load a new file. It really annoying from a developement point of view.

Can you confirm that when using the livesearch on my site, you get the results in the sidebar underneath the search box.

I will have to get back to you after I check about the search form.

    dean.j.robinson Wednesday 10 January 2007
  310. Dean: you said Livesearch doesn’t work. However it does on your site??? Furthermore, if I disable the widget, hwo can I have a normal search form??

    gillo Wednesday 10 January 2007
  311. gillo: For the archives page, my suggestion would be to go to ‘manage pages’ and delete the archives page, then re-create the page manually and make sure to set the page template to ‘page-archives’, and don’t enter any conetent in the main text area.

I am still working on a fix for the sidebar display problem.

    dean.j.robinson Tuesday 09 January 2007
  312. First of all, congrats for the good work. I have a problem with the archives, I installed the latest ELA, but I cannot see anything on my archives page (http://totaltactics.org/archives/). On the Redoable options I chose to have Redoable set up ELA for me.

On another note, in the pages with short content, such as the archives, the sidebar background shortens too and the text on the sidebar doesn’t show properly anymore. Any way to fix this?

    gillo Tuesday 09 January 2007
  313. smo: Thanks for the feedback, I am working on fixing that problem, its caused by the way that the month list is floated in that first module, it should definitely be fixed in the updated version which should be available in the next week or so.
