Remember when Usain Bolt blitzed his competitors and smashed the world record for the 100m at the Beijing Olympics last year? Then you’d also remember that he slowed down with about 20m to go. I think everyone wondered how fast he could have gone. Well on Sunday night he did just that in Berlin, he ran the 100m in just 9.58s, 0.11s quicker than his Beijing time. Somehow I don’t think he is done just yet.
I’m sorry, more sport, but WTF? I can understand a switch from Rugby League to Rugby Union, and vice-versa, but a switch from Rugby League (which is about big guys basically beating the crap out of each other) to AFL (which is more about athletic ability and skill) is just, well, weird…
TeamVodafone switch from Ford to Holden Holy carp… You see Ford, this is what happens when you withdraw all your funding from a team that has won you the last three Bathurst 1000s and the 2008 Championship.
It might have taken 8 long, unlucky years but Mark Webber has finally won a Formula One race after taking out the 2009 German Grand Prix at the Nurburgring. Starting from pole he was slapped with a drive through penalty but that wasn’t going to stop him, today was his day and nothing was going to stop him winning. Webber, the first Australian to win an F1race in 27 years, now sits third in the championship just 1.5 points behind his team mate. The second half of the championship is going to be awesome.
Hello and Wilkommen, today we must consider The Roger Federer Equation
Neat little ad that Nike put together in celebration of Roger’s victory at the 2009 French Open, which gave him his 14th Grand Slam title finally passing equalling Pete Sampras… having Nadal out of the way was definitely helpful, and very ‘wilkommen’.
Ever since the 2005 Ashes when Andrew Flintoff destroyed everything the Australian cricket team has been searching for a genuine all-rounder to do the same. Andrew Symonds (when he’s not fishing) and Shane Watson (when he’s not injured) have filled the role since then, and after they were both unavailable due to injury Andrew McDonald was given a go without (until last night) much success.
However, right now, why do we need to find an all-rounder, when the opening (and currently most experienced) bowler in the side also averages almost 35 with the bat and in recent times has outscored the batsmen in the team. Overnight Johnson smashed his way to his first test century (off only about 86 balls), finishing 123 not out. This came just a couple of weeks after he was left stranded on 96 not out after the rest of the tail crumbled around him. In the series against South Africa just completed he was the equal leading wicket taker from either side, and was the third highest run scorer for Australia with an average of 85. Not to shabby, and if Johnson can fill the all-rounder role, then we can play an extra “genuine” batsman which sounds like a good idea to me.
Southern Cross Ten to carry ONEHD Given that Southern Cross’s current HD channel is just a never ending loop of pretty pictures and background music with the occasional bit or programing thrown in I had’nt held much hope or them broadcasting the new One HD sports channel starting in April. But according to this article it looks like will be showing… bit of a shame really I was all pumped up to write an abusive email…
